Really great pub, have never experienced the staff to be anything than really friendly!

should be an excellent pub- nice decor, spacious beer garden/smoking area but this is negated by the staff employed there. I have witnessed some of the most ignorant and abusive behaviour from them to decent people merely having a quiet drink. Abusing their power for the sake of it, I will never visit again.

Came from england 1st time to Ireland went in with my sister and the barmaid refused us service stating regulars only she had a Disgraceful manner very Unfriendly

I was a nanny when I was going to Tom Barry's pub. I went there almost every day of every weekend and there's no other bar like it. I'm from America and Tom Barry's Pub is my favorite pub to this day. It didn't hurt that the owner was easy on the eyes. The people who worked there were great, the people who drank there were great. The atmosphere was fantastic. I can't wait to come back!

What?? 3.5 rating?? This is the best pub in Cork, especially during the summer with it's lovely beer garden. Caters for all drink tastes - cheap bottles of wine chilled or creamy pint of stout.

Lovely pub, nice pints but unnecessarily rude staff whom I witnessed making a few customers very uncomfortable for what appeared to be no apparent reason.

Went here for the 1st time tonight and really enjoyed it. Stunning beer garden. Staff a bit abrupt but mostly friendly. They weren't any worse than staff in the centre. Great atmosphere. Love the indoor and outdoor fireplaces. Great place to go for a quite drink and a chat...and a game of scrabble! Definitely going back.

Staff are the opposite of what ya want for a pub, extreamily rude and come across as not very nice people. I live up the road but dont go in there anymore cause of this.

Hard to find because there is no name on the door and there is a pub opposite with Tom in the name so it can be easy to get confused

Have to agree with most of the comments here. The staff are very rude and don't seem to care about the customers who are paying the wages. Are they going for the Hi-B vibe with the staff, cause if they are, Brian was one of a kind and ye are by no means a Brian.

Horrible staff. Unnecessarily mean to people. (Personally, I have never been refused but watching it happen is enough to turn you off the place). The location and layout of the bar is bringing people there so I dont see them changing how they treat people any time soon. Unfortunately :(

I was there over Xmas 2009 and the pub is quite busy. Again I saw like other reviewers that the female bar staff refused a lot of people. Given the time of year there were a few groups of pub crawlers so I guess refusing them might be ok since the pub was full and some of them very very drunk. However, I also saw other people being efused for no apparent reason, including those who drink there regularly. I don't go there often but if you did not know the place you would find this very unfriendly.

awful pub, run by people with no manners trying to be Maître d'. it feels as if your being judged, cant relax at all inside there.not an irish pub, better suited in mayfair or one of those places.

Amazing pub, only went there for the first time recently and it blew me away, gorgeous beer garden, open fires inside and out!! Stout great and I found the barstaff very friendly.

New Bar Staff didnt know what she was doing, stopped serving our group of 30 at 1130 because we were "too" drunk, I had 3 drinks there. NEVER GOING BACK!!

Lovely beergarden, nice crowd. However you might be randomly refused for no reason by the bar staff. Happened me once, said I was drunk, which I wasn't. Whatever. Cork has plenty of pubs.

On Easter Sunday night, at about 11pm, myself and my friend went to Tom Barrys, to meet up with a group of friends from school, who were already there. We are all 30 or 31, a respectable enough bunch, we don't look like trouble basically. My friend went to buy two drinks for us, to be informed by the barman that I wasn't been served. I looked at my friend who said was he serious and looked around in dismay at my group of friends, who looked on in disbelief. I was completely sober after no drink at all! I asked for the drinks again and after been refused again, I asked for the reason I was not been served. I was told that I had had enough to drink. At this a female member of staff told me I should leave. I asked her for the reason I was been singled out, she said I was rude to the barman. More of my friends asked her why I was not been served, to be told that I had had enough to drink. We suggested that the rest of the group could all leave the bar too, to which she replied "that's grand." I left and my friend who went there with me left too. We went to a nearby bar, where I was served. I asked the barman if he thought I was drunk, he said no. I informed him of what had just happened, he said that he had heard similar stories about Tom Barrys. I have since heard that their staff routinely treat people like this. The way I was treated by the staff was absolutely disgraceful. They are rude to the point of being obnoxious, displaying a very bad attitude and behave in a tactless manner. I used to go to this bar occasionally but given the way I was treated there and what I have found out about the pub since, I am never going there again.

One of the best pubs I'v ever been in . I used to live down the road from it and sometimes I wish I still did!.The beer garden is to die for ... even in winter!The whole place is just one wonderful experience … Go go go!

Lovely pub. Would rate it more but the barmaid, can be very rude. I have seen her refuse people for no reason. Used to drink there most Fridays but now I couldnt be bothered. Cant get a seat after 7pm!!

Such a nice pub... excellent barmaids (and they're all hot too) and some good looking birds (and guys, myself included) drinking there!! Pints are smashing, and the atmosphere is super!!

ignorant female bartender refused to serve myself and a friend after work on a Friday evening recently and would not give reason. First time it ever happened in that pub but have since learned others have been similarly humiliated. never drink there again, Disgraceful attitude

Great pub, hard to pin down exactly what it is; good music, get a few old regulars, lots of young folk and exchange students too. Great beer garden and smoking area, they always have a fire going in the corner too!
